Best Surf Spots Near Biarritz for Intermediate Surfers?

Hey everyone,

I’m planning a surf trip to the Basque coast next month and basing myself around Biarritz. I’ve been surfing regularly for a couple of years, so I’d say I’m at an intermediate level—comfortable catching green waves, doing basic turns, but still working on consistency and reading the lineup better.

I know Biarritz itself has a few well-known spots like Côte des Basques and Grande Plage, but I’d love to hear from locals or anyone familiar with the area:

Ideally looking for:

A wave that’s not too heavy or crowded

Works well in late August

Options for both beach breaks and maybe a mellow reef or point

Bonus if there’s a surf-friendly vibe (not too intense or territorial)

Also open to driving 30–45 minutes if there’s a nearby gem worth checking out.
